Publisher Showcase: Rick Riordan Presents

One of the newest Imprints under the Disney-Hyperion family of Hachette is that of Rick Riordan Presents, a publishing company that started in 2017 and promoted by Rick Riordan. Disney had originally proposed a similar concept to Riordan and his editor, Stephanie Lurie, years previous, however, he had declined the offer as he was busy writing and planning multiple series of his own at the time and would be unable to properly oversee and promote an Imprint. 

The goal of this imprint is to create at minimum four books per year from different authors and backgrounds and expand upon the stories of myth and folklore that are available to middle-grade readers and particularly fans of Riordan's work. As of now, the Imprint has published 10 novels by various authors, with at minimum another 8 to be published by mid-2022.

Much better, I thought, to use my experience and my platform at Disney to put the spotlight on other great writers who are actually from those cultures and know the mythologies better than I do. Something important to note about this collection of books under the Rick Riordan Imprint is that while these stories do not take place in the same world of the Riordanverse and therefore do not showcase his characters, there are references scattered throughout by their authors who are inspired by Riordan. Furthermore, there can be multiple stories that come from and are influenced by the same culture and heritage but be written by different authors with their own interpretations. This has been done to create different points of view into these underrepresented mythologies and stories, and create an expansive world of the gods, demons and heroes who have walked among us throughout our history.

The Pandava Quintet - Roshani Chokshi 

Twelve-year-old Aru Shah has a tendency to stretch the truth in order to fit in at school. While her classmates are jetting off to family vacations in exotic locales, she'll be spending her autumn break at home, in the Museum of Ancient Indian Art and Culture, waiting for her mom to return from her latest archeological trip. The Storm Runner Triolgy - J.C. Cervantes

Sal & Gabi - Carlos Hernandez

How did a raw chicken get inside Yasmany's locker?

Race to the Sun - Rebecca Roanhorse
